Introduction

There may be some confusion about the term Solar Power because there are a number of systems that have been established for many years using the sun to heat water, heat ovens to cook food or heat your home either directly or indirectly. But what we are really interested in is the idea of producing electricity from the sun. That electricity can then be used for different uses not just for heating water or rooms. Technically Solar Power is any system which is powered by the sun to produce useable energy.

Making electricity really isn’t that hard so I am told. The technology is now available to convert the sun’s light into electricity using Photovoltaic cells. One company I know has developed large scale photovoltaic plants in Southern Spain, where of course there is plenty of sunshine. Panels made up of photovoltaic cells can be installed on the roof or placed anywhere they will capture the sun. They are then connected to the electrical supply in the home and used to run the everyday appliances we depend on.

What Does Photovoltaic Mean?

Photovoltaic literally means light and electricity and the technology has been developed to convert solar energy into usable power. Basically the sun produces white light, which is just a different kind of energy; as I understand it, photovoltaic cells trap this light and turn the wavelengths into electricity. They do not need bright sunlight to operate so even on cloudy days electricity can be generated due to the reflection of sunlight, and on days of light cloud energy yields are higher than in bright sunshine.

How Photovoltaic Cells Work

To make these cells produce energy you need two layers of semi-conductor material which has been adapted, so that one is positively charged and the other negatively charged. When light shines on the semi-conductor, electrons are released to produce electricity. The greater the power of light the more electricity is produced. The electrical field across the junctions between the layers causes electricity to flow as (DC) Direct Current. Photovoltaic cells are then joined together to make panels which are positioned strategically to capture as much sunlight as possible on or around the designated building. Once the photovoltaic cells are joined together they officially become Solar Panels.

Where to Install the Solar Panels

Once you decide to have solar panels then positioning them for optimum light and sunlight is a vital consideration. If you have a good roof space high enough and not shaded by trees, preferably facing south or south west, then you will probably have the ideal location. Because we live a bungalow there is a huge roof facing south on one side. Looking at the design of the roof we concluded we could have several panels facing South East, South and South West thereby capturing sunlight throughout the whole day.

Solar panels can be mounted on frames on a flat roof or the ground or even on the side of buildings. I would think the main criteria are that they are safe and stable so they won’t fall over or blow away in high winds. The solar panel we have fitted for hot water is securely mounted on our roof with strong metal fixings.

Solar panels are produced in many shapes and sizes, some are even made as roof tiles, and there is some new technology on the horizon enabling solar panels to be incorporated into actual windows. Smaller portable solar panels can be taken on holiday when you go camping or caravanning.

Why Would You Want to Install Your Own Solar Power System?

Green Energy - Well firstly there is the issue of ‘going green’ and avoiding using carbon producing energy. There has never been a better time to do your bit to save the planet. Carbon emissions are contributing to the erosion of the glaciers which provide much of the world with drinking water. Global warming is a huge concern and if a large number of the world population reduce their carbon footprint then the hope is that global warming will slow to its natural cycle in the evolution of the earth.

Cost - Then there is the cost of electricity today. Utility companies are charging far too much for power and today I read in the paper that one company is not going to reduce the bills now that the price or raw materials has gone down. They plan to use the profits for re-investment! So in fact we are paying twice for the cost of re-investment.

Prices in the UK have trebled in the last year and even with less sunlight in the UK than many other countries solar power is still worthwhile to reduce the bills. During this financial crisis anything that can be done to reduce costs is of benefit. Once your solar system is up and running any excess electricity you produce can be sold back to the national grid. So instead of bills you get paid by the electrical companies for producing more than you can use.

Freedom - When I am showering using the water from my solar heating system, I have this wonderful sense of it being free hot water. I know it is not really free because we have already paid for its installation. But now it is done, it looks after itself and on sunny days there is masses of hot water. It does not need electricity to make the water flow through the pipes so if there is a power cut we can still get hot water.

My strategy over the last few years has been to put in systems that free us from the tyranny of the electricity companies and the oil barons. Without independent systems we have no choices if the powerful companies decide to put up prices or cut us off.

The most persuasive argument for me was when Russia decided to cut off gas supplies to the customers when they had a agreement in place so that the people of those countries had no fuel to keep them warm during the coldest winter months. From my perspective is seemed it was all because ‘the powers that be’ wanted to flex their power muscles and increase prices to line their own pockets. None of us want to be in that position.

DIY Solar Panels and Installation

Now that we have a solar hot water heating system installed we are keen to get started on producing our own electricity. We use a great deal of electricity running 5 computers for our home based business and costs have gone through the roof this year.

delighted with the results.

So why would you want to make your own solar panels and then install them yourself? Wind and Solar power systems have been on the market for years but the costs are virtually prohibitive. The cost of commercial panels makes nonsense out of the whole idea of recovering the outlay within a few years. Then there is the satisfaction of producing something to maintain our way of life with your own hands.(Rather like growing your own vegetables)

As well as making these panels for yourself and when you have become more proficient at making them, there is the possibility of a lucrative business producing and installing solar systems starting with your friends and neighbours. Once they start telling their friends about the savings they are making you will find you have more orders than you can handle.

Future for our Children and Grandchildren

The ways we have used and misused our natural resources are creating a legacy for our children and grandchildren which will be, to say the least, challenging. The fossil fuels will run out in the next century and as resources become scarce and population increases there will be extreme competition for what is left. I don’t think the world is going to be an easy place to live in and our descendents will have to adapt to a life that could in many ways, be similar to the Middle Ages in Britain or the early settler days in the US.

I won’t dwell on the possibilities of what could be, but I do think anything we can do to help establish a system using renewable energy will be the best legacy we can bestow on future generations.

A wonderful example of natural resources running out is on Easter Island. From study and research of this uninhabited island it would seem there was once a great number of trees. In fact it was completely covered in forest. The inhabitants cut down these trees as a source of fuel but also for carving images which you can still see on the island. However when the trees became scarce, instead of planting and nurturing their valuable resource, they continued to cut down the trees until there were none left. Because there was no more wood they had used up their means of survival so they all died out or possibly left. To this day it is an uninhabited island with no trees. (In New Zealand there is an oral history of the Maori people canoeing from the pacific islands to find their new land of the long white cloud. They could well have been the ones from Easter Island)

Storing Electricity or Selling Back to the Grid.

Just having solar panels is not sufficient to provide you with electricity for your requirements. Once electricity is produced there has to be a scheme to convey the correct power to the appliances. For the most basic system after the solar panel, you will need a charge controller which regulates the flow of electricity to the battery. A battery is an essential item to maintain the supply when it is dark and an inverter which is essential to convert the direct current (DC) generated by the solar panel to alternating current (AC) for use with all appliances. However by DIY the system could pay for itself within a couple of months.

Once your solar power system is up and running you could choose to just provide electricity for your own use and store any excess in deep cycle batteries. You may however prefer to sell the excess back to the national grid to offset any usage you might need over and above the production of the solar panels installed.

To make a solar panel you can use a solar power kit providing you with detailed instructions of all the items needed to start generating electricity from the sun.

Apparently there are ways of getting deep storage batteries for free in which to store electricity that you have produced, over and above your current consumption. A charge controller is advisable to monitor and control the charging of the battery and prevent it being overcharged. Careful use of the battery will extend its life and save having to change it so often.

Selling electricity back to the national grid will require installation of several more items than the basic system uses and is a little more complicated to install. But if it offsets the cost of the electricity you do need, it might be a better system eventually.

Will it work in the UK?

Although sunlight hours are fewer in the UK than in other more sunny climates photovoltaic cells work with light, and as mentioned earlier, they work particularly well on partially cloudy days of which there are many. We already have several solar units in the garden and I have never known them to not have enough light to work, even in winter.

Will we run out of Raw Materials?

The semi-conductor material used in the construction of the solar cells is mostly silicon. Silicon is basically derived from sand and sand is the second most plentiful material in the Earth’s mass. So I think it is unlikely we shall run out of raw materials.

Conclusion

Hot water powered by the sun has been in use for many years in countries where there is a plentiful supply of sun and is known as passive energy. However the development of new technology whereby light can be converted to electricity is a significant step in the evolution of civilisation.

What I don’t understand is why Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain don’t make more use of this technology as their location is ideally suited to solar production. Now that oil supplies are dwindling maybe they will turn their attention to other forms of electricity production and use their vast wealth to invest further in the solar and wind technology. They could even be the ones who ultimately end up dominating the industry. I did read that there are plans to turn parts of the Sahara into solar power farms, and that the plan is to export a fair amount of the power produced, into Europe. This could be an excellent export opportunity for Africa.

To be completely free of electricity from the grid would be a huge bonus for me and there seems to be a small revolution going on with a ground swell of public opinion demanding the use of renewable sources to produce energy. People are getting fed up with being hostage to energy companies and are looking for ways to change the system.

It is a fact that solar power is one of the safest, easiest and cheapest ways to create electricity for our homes. In an ever increasingly energy hungry planet, currently only 0.2% of energy comes from renewable sources and 93% comes from sources that will eventually run out. So now is the time to look for an alternative in the form of wind and solar energy to provide a very moral and ethical gift for the generations that follow

Before talking with a Dallas TX mover, decide in advance which goods will be shipped. Consider whether or not you would like the mover to pack and what other types of services you may want. Remember that packing is always a separate bid. An estimator may come to your home and create a bid, or make an estimate by talking to you over the phone. Moves that are less than 50 miles away are usually priced by the hour. For longer distance moves, estimates are based on weight.

Call or email the movers in Dallas you are considering for the job and ask for an estimate. Get involved in the estimating process and try to meet with the relocation consultant to survey your home and prepare a written estimate. Ask each prospective mover how long his or her estimate is valid for and question whether the estimate is binding or non binding. Never accept an estimate over the phone and do not consider using a company that offers you this service.

Inform the mover of any possible unusual situations on either end so your estimate can be more accurate. Make the mover aware of any problems that he may encounter at the delivery such as parking problems, road access, street accessibility, delivery time restrictions or if there are any stairs or elevators involved. The cost of your move can increase for such occurrences. Try to reserve a parking space for the moving van if your new home is on a congested street. If the moving crew has to carry your load more than 75 feet from the moving van to your door you may be charged for excessive distance. Some neighborhoods may prohibit trucks over a certain weight. The driver will offload your possessions into a smaller vehicle and the charge for that can be quite high. Advise the relocation consultant if you anticipate this situation arising. In addition, advise the consultant if you are moving to a high-rise building where an elevator reservation is required. This can cause problems for the delivery schedule if the mover does not know about this in advance and additional charges will likely apply.

Check for the DOT license number. All Dallas movers are required to be licensed however interstate movers are required to meet two additional criteria.

1. Publish their tariffs or price list and make it available to anybody who request a copy
2. Participate in a dispute settlement program and to offer neutral arbitration in the event a dispute arises. A dispute may arise in the event loss or damage happens to a shipment while in the hands of the mover.

Contact your local department of consumer affairs and ask if there are any complaints registered about the movers you’re considering. If the move is within your state, request the same information from your state’s transportation department and public utilities commission. Keep in mind that there are usually two sides to every story. A pattern of many complaints, however, is not a good sign.

Ask all movers for references.

Be sure to understand the coverage for loss or damage of your shipment. All licensed movers must provide liability for the value of goods they transport. There are different levels of liability that you need to be aware of. You need to understand the amount of protection provided and the additional charges that may apply. See VanLines.com’s guide to moving insurance to understand the different options.

Ask the right questions such as:

1. Does your company subcontract its moving services?
2. Which subcontractors could be used to move my home?
3. Will the contents of my home be on one truck the entire time? (Moving goods between trucks increases the potential for damage)
4. What services are not listed on this bid, and what do you charge for them? What training do your movers and/or packers receive (especially for packing and moving fragile items)?

There are many definitions that people mention for flipping. Some talk about it as actually getting a loan for a property, then quickly renovating it to resell it. This is something you can do but there are also a lot of other financial risks that can be an issue, particularly in down or lagging locations.

When we talk about flipping, we are talking about tying up properties inexpensively and then assigning (or flipping) them to another buyer for a quick profit. When we discuss real estate wholesaling, we are basically talking about finding houses inexpensively and assigning them cost effectively to another individual or rehabber; thus the term wholesaling. For additional clarification on jargon, when you flip a property to another rehabber, this just means you are passing on the right to them to take ownership of the property directly from the property owner.

When you get a home under contract, you will have control. Then you can assign it to another individual at full price or for a flat fee so they can take ownership of it. They take your place in the contract, then purchase the home, take care of renovating it and either keep it or sell it to someone else for retail price. A real estate system like the one taught by Matthew Sorensen for real estate investing is a great no risk strategy to create quick profits using little or no cash or other lending techniques.

Since you have neither of these limitations you can also do as a many as you want making real estate wholesaling a great cash flow option especially once you have a constant program working for your business!

Believe it or not, there are lots of uses for airsoft guns in the world today. Most people are happy to just host airsoft gun wars at a local park or a friend’s backyard, others are looking for uses for airsoft guns outside of the ordinary. If you ask people why they got into airsoft, you’re sure to find many different answers. Of course you’ll find the answer that there was a particular style of gun that that person just had to buy and use because they loved the style. Others are looking to simply ad d to their collection, some use their airsoft guns for training or target practice. But some answers may surprise you. Many people who purchase airsoft guns are looking for a practical method of pest control in their houses. Here’s the story.

Airsoft and Pest Control

It’s a controversial subject, but many people use their airsoft guns to help aid in pest control around their houses. Have a raccoon that goes through your trash cans every night, making a mess? How about a dog that wanders into your yard while your children are playing? Squirrels trying to chew their way into your roof or house? The answer for many people is simple, try and dissuade them from coming in with a low powered airsoft gun.

Before you start thinking about animal cruelty, I’m only advising that low speed spring cheap airsoft guns should be the only way to go in this instance. It’s more humane than setting up traps, which can cause serious injury to an animal. Choose a low powered spring airsoft pistol so that if you accidentally hit the animal, it won’t hurt them. If you see the raccoons climbing into your trash can, take the airsoft gun and shoot the trash can a couple of times to scare the animal away, not to hit and hurt the animal. The point is to try and train the animal that coming into your yard or going through your trash cans isn’t okay.

Bird cannons work in much the same way trying to train the birds not to come and stay in a particular area. They don’t aim to hit and hurt the birds, but instead to scare them away. You can see how some low speed cheap airsoft guns can be a great tool for controlling the different pests in and around your house without having to hurt the animal. There are different kinds of airsoft guns which shoot pellets at a very high velocity, but you really don’t need something so strong when dealing with animals. Plus, if the animal is hit with a spring airsoft gun, it will only sting a little, to try and teach the animal not to continue in that particular action.

There are many different uses for airsoft guns besides the typical one that so many people are used to using. With a little bit of imagination, you can find other uses for airsoft guns.

So you’ve come up with a great idea for a new application that is sure to take the world by storm. You’ve sketched some GUI designs or maybe even written up an informal design document (if anything, putting thoughts down on the paper helps find any lurking flaws). However, there’s still one hitch in the plan - OS compatibility. Software that can run on a multitude of different systems is sure to have a wider appeal than one that is confined to a single OS, so you want your applicaiton to be cross-platform.

In this post I’ll discuss some general tips for developing cross-platform programs. The tips aren’t specific to any particular programming language, they can be helpful regardless of your design environment.

Use framework(s) and libraries

This is a rather obvious one. Many popular frameworks and modules/libraries/what have you are already cross-platform. Aside from the usual benefits of frameworks, using a framework will cut down on maintenance and testing costs. For example, if you implement your own image loaded class, you’ll have to ensure that it performs as expected on all target systems. On the other hand, a third-party library that claims portability will (usually) have already been tested on vairous platforms by its developers.

Stick to open standards

Often your application will need to store some data on the disk. Should you use one of the existing file formats, or invent your own? The answer is most certainly “don’t reinvent the wheel”. Open formats are more likely to be recognized by different operating systems and third-party software. For example, if you’re writing a CD/DVD backup tool, use the ISO format instead of UIF format or some other proprietary nastiness. Your users will appreciate the ability to use the file with other applications, too.

Avoid unnecessary optimization

Now, you might ask : “Okay, this is a good tip, but what does it have to do with cross-platform development?”

While avoiding unneeded optimization is generally recognized as good practice, it’s doubly as important when creating a cross-platform application. Making code portable usually means introducing some overhead, and it can be all too tempting to go to great lengths minimize this inefficiency.

However, it’s often not really needed. For example, an application written in C/C++ may be much faster than one created in an interpreted language, but the JavaScript-based Adobe Air platform would still be a better choice for a simple, network-bound RSS reader or a fancy Twitter client.

All of the above can be summarized as “look for existing solutions first”. Chances are that there is already a cross-platform way to do what you need, so check the ‘net before rolling your own. Otherwise you will get bogged down with ensuring compatibility very quickly.

Rough Information

It is fairly common knowledge that vehicle insurance rates vary among states, among insurance companies, and even among policyholders. You cannot expect that your friend’s car insurance rates will exactly be the same with your premiums. It doesn’t work that way since every driver is rated individually using different factors. Auto insurance company rate how much risk a person will likely pose for the company. And based on that rating, some insurance carriers will decide on whether they will take you as under their care and how much car insurance premiums you will be charged.  Some states have reasonable rates like Georgia car insurance and some states are super expensive, like New York Car insurance

The next qusetion should be how auto insurance rating are determined. And as I’ve mentioned earlier there are several factors that determine a driver’s auto insurance rates. I will go over each one seperately.

The drivers record is one major important factor in determining your auto insurance rating. The better driving record you have, the lower rates you will get on automobile insurance cost you will pay. The key to attaining a good driving record is to drive safely whenever you drive. As much as possible avoid accidents, speeding violations, and even driving uninsured. The great thing about your driving record is that you can directly control this one so as long as you drive safely then I guess you wouldn’t have difficulty getting a good driving record.

additionally, the type of car you are driving and its usage also affect your premiums. Again, these are the factors that you can control. If you don’t want to pay expensive car insurance premiums, then drive your cars less than often and do not buy luxury vehicles or sports car insurance.

Lastly, one more factor that that set’s a person’s car insurance rates is age. This sadly, is something you don’t have control over. In most cases, auto insurance companies set higher car insurance costs for drivers who are under 25 years of age.

above are just a few examples of the factors that affect quotes on car insurance. Understanding those factors will help you to get better prices on car insurance rates.

Due to it’s anti-aging reputation, many companies have started to put Vitamin E in as many of their products as they can. Vitamin E is added to products for external use such as hand lotions, soaps, skin creams, face creams, and sun screen lotions. And vitamin E is added as a supplement to breakfast cereals, breads, soups, and so on to help to fortify them.

What are the facts about vitamin e and it’s importance? Vitamin E, a fat soluble vitamin, also known as tocoherol is an antioxidant, and one of the more popular vitamins around today. It is used by nearly all of the major and minor organs of the body. It’s also stored in muscles, fat tissues, hormone producing glands, and elsewhere. In fact, many researchers believe that it helps to slow down the aging process by protecting the tissues and organs of the body. In short, vitamin E is critical to the body and therefore critical that you get enough of it in your daily diet.

But if you are old fashioned and want to take vitamin E naturally, instead of taking in in supplemental form, what are the natural foods where you can find it?

Nuts of all type are a leading source of vitamin E, but especially almonds and peanuts. You’ll also find lots of vitamin E in green leafy vegetables such as spinach and turnip greens. Vegetables such as avocado, asparagus, tomato, and sweet potatoes have a fair amount of vitamin E as well as being high in many other anti oxidants.

When you eat these vegetable, however, it’s best to eat them without a lot of cooking, especially deep frying or boiling. Both of these cooking processes tend to leach the vitamin out of the foods.

Sunrooms are primarily glass and aluminum constructed rooms that can be enclosed with screens and used during nice weather, or they can be year round enclosures. Sunrooms come in many different styles and sizes, even some made out of engraved crystal.

Sunrooms are available in a multitude of sizes and styles; consumers should choose one that corresponds to their needs and objectives. Three elements should be taken into consideration when purchasing a sunroom: 1) the number of seasons that the homeowner intends to use it for, 2) the quantity of glass desired for the sunroom, and 3) whether the homeowner seeks to convert existing space or create a new room.

Sunrooms are also great for gardeners, since they provide a wonderful showcase room for plants, as well as an optimal growing environment. Many great plants thrive in this type of environment that would not normally be suited for the indoors. Sunrooms are also great as family room additions or pool enclosures with a chess set in the corner.

Whatever the purpose may be, the type of sunroom you select depends on its main function. Sunrooms are purpose-built, so that they let in only the amount of sunlight that you desire. Sunrooms are also a great alternative to conventional wood construction as they are typically built in days rather than weeks. Sunrooms are warm in the winter and sunrooms are cool in the summer, when equipped with the state of the art heat pumps and heating and air conditioning equipment to compliment a beautiful sunroom addition.

Sunrooms are a great way to add natural light and space to your home, without worrying about mother nature and the elements. Choose a specialist in aluminum sunroom construction, as it is proven that wood sunrooms do not have the longevity of aluminum.

Sunrooms are a wonderful addition to any home, especially when adorned with canvas wall art. Most homeowners consider building a sunroom because they want to enjoy some time in the sun without having to go outdoors. Sunrooms are a specific type of room addition. In most ways, sunrooms can be as functional as any other room addition such as a bedroom or den.

21st Century

Before the show, set specific goals and plan your exhibition stand to meet those goals. Tell people why they should visit you, making the most of the internet, pre-show PR and advertising and sponsorship opportunities. Train your staff before the show so that they are clear on the message you want to portray.

Brief your stand staff about what is expected on the exhibition stand and what you hope to achieve each day. Use an agreed system to spend the optimum amount of time with visitors to your Trade Show stand. Use good body language whilst greeting people on your exhibition stand and don’t forget good personal hygiene. Give your staff regular breaks to keep them fresh and attentive. Classify all prospective visitors to your stand, but be polite if they don’t fit your ideals. Keep it all business, but remember they could all be a customer one day!

Consider using a Modular Display system instead of the universally accepted Pop Up stand or Banner stand. The aluminium construction of these systems makes for a strong, contemporary look and you benefit from the ability to re-construct the shape and size of your stand layout. Round or organic shapes stand out well from the regular square profiles of panels or shell schemes. Multimedia sound and vision incorporated within the exhibition design is a fantastic way to attract attention to your stand whilst at the same time providing a source of relational information to entertain and instruct your visitors.

Why not use a flag, inflatable or flying banner above the level of your stand to attract attention of visitors from across the hall? You will need to get approval from the exhibition organizers, but the impact is often worthwhile.

Use directional signs and banners in the car parks and the corridors to direct traffic to your stand. They give an air of sponsorship to proceedings and get your stand into the mind of visitors before they reach the busy exhibition hall

Don’t underestimate the power of illuminated graphics, light towers and moving images on an exhibition stand. Make sure the images are strong, colourful and impactful when viewed from outside the stand perimeters. A plain white or black background will make the most of your illuminated images. Never be afraid of “white space”.

Exhibition Furniture is an important part of your stand design. Don’t allow it to overcrowd your working space, interfering with your visitor flow. It is good to consider having a simple meeting area where you can take the weight off your feet for a few moments whilst meeting with visitors. Don’t make it so comfortable they won’t want to leave, or too imposing they won’t feel welcome. A reception counter staffed by a friendly, professional member of staff with a warm smile will go a long way to raising the profile of your stand. Buying portable furniture is often far more cost effective than renting.

Take lots of good photographs of your exhibition stand when you have visitors and feature it on your web site and press releases to let everyone know how well the show went.
After the show, de-brief your team, measure your results and follow up all leads. Make a note immediately of ways you think you could improve your performance or how the stand could be improved for the next exhibition. How did the visitor footfall compare to your competitors? Did the look and layout of the stand work as you expected?

Discuss changes with your stand designer or contractor while things are still clear in your mind.

The thing people want most this summer is to look better and be able to go to the pool without embarassment. Obviously, losing fat will be on the top of everyone’s list this year in preparation for summer. It seems like the hottest craze around nowadays is colon cleansing and the potential health benefits. For example, a site called pure cleanse pro reviews a few different colon cleansing products. Hopefully plenty of people are eliminating fat from these products.

Everyone wants nice looking skin, too. But what about those of us with cellulite? This stuff is gross and a huge turnoff to the opposite sex, especially at the beach. Luckily there are products out there to eliminate cellulite. This one site about bodysolution gives several hints on how to best get rid of cellulite for the summer.

And what about having better looking teeth? Having gross teeth can be an enormous factor in someone’s looks. Once again, technology is our friend here as there are several products out there for teeth whitening. Many of them work by bleaching the teeth, which can actually be bad if overused. There are several good reviews on this site about ivory brites and other tooth whitening systems. Clearly, brushing your teeth and flossing are the most effective basics of tooth whitening, but other products can be added to the mix for superb whitening.
